The 3 Uncrowned Kings : The Miami Heat Haven’t Won Anything Yet

Friday, July 9th the Miami Heat became NBA champions. At least I thought they were according to ESPN and every media outlet in the basketball world. ESPN hailed them as the “Dream Team” as Kobe Bryant was sitting at home with what could be his most confused face ever.

You’ve all heard the claims of the self-nicknamed “Three Kings” talking about winning one championship, and then winning championships exceeding seven. But when did the Heat take the crown from the Lakers?

Rapper “Flo Rida” thinks the Heat are already NBA champs in his most recent hit “We Already Won”.

In his lyrics he speaks of “not needing to play any games” and “all the Heat are gonna do is win”. When did “Flo Rida” become Nostradamus?

The Heat haven’t won anything yet.

Do they remember the 2004 Lakers? 2004 Yankees? 2008 Patriots?

Having an All-Star team means absolutely nothing in the sports world.

The Heat haven’t filled out their roster, they haven’t had a training camp, they haven’t played any games, and they haven’t beat the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers. Can we agree that Miami is a great team to say the least, but not championship worthy right now?

Can we as fans, uncrowned kings, and the media just wait till June to crown the real NBA champions? I’m sure that Kobe Bryant would be happy to hear that we are waiting until June to crown the real kings.

So can we all just back down claims of NBA champions, and talk about a thrilling 2010 NBA Finals?

It would benefit the NBA and what was a great NBA season.

There is no doubt that Miami may be on its way to establish a legacy of consistent elite basketball. This year the only clear and convincing argument that can be made, however, is that the Eastern Conference has gotten more competitive. The Celtics are better this year with Shaq in the center and Germaine O'neal as well. It is expected that True Superman may outshine all centers this year to challenge for the finals in the Eastern Conference. Chicago has gotten better and The nets may have some surprises under Avery Johnson and one of the wealthiest men in the world. While I expect that Miami will definitely give us playoff basketball from the beginning of the season, they will not fare any better than the 2008 Cleveland Cavaliers.
