The Ladies of Twitter’s Favorite Athletes Of All-Time And Why???

It’s your boy back for another Twitter post, this time it’s about “The Ladies In My Twitter Life”
How often do you get a chance to hear who a woman’s favorite athlete of all-time is???
I took a poll of the beautiful sports minded women that are mutual followers of mine on Twitter. I asked them who their favorite athlete was of all-time, and here were their responses:

My favorite athlete USED to be Brett Favre, because he was the reason I became so love with football… but his recent antics have really turned me off for being my all time fav athlete. So I’ll go with one that won’t let me down.
Cal Ripken, Jr of the Baltimore Orioles. Before I got into football, baseball was my sport of choice. The Orioles were still a respected organization and it was all Baltimore had for 12 years. Cal Ripken filled the void for myself and other locals with his play. I watched him become the “Iron Man”, breaking Lou Gehrig’s consecutive game record. I watched Cal make to the 3,000 hit club, and I also said goodbye to him during his final season. He’s one of the greatest athletes of any sport, and I’ve been fortunate to see him in the flesh. Whether it was at Memorial Stadium or Camden Yards, Ripken has brought in plenty of memories for Orioles fans or even baseball fans. I’m glad I had to chance to experience his greatness at a time when baseball was king.
Hard to narrow down to one person because I have so many. I would have to say Arthur Ashe. I think he epitomized class both on and off the court. So many great athletes have issues, both legal and otherwise, that seem to distract from the greatness of their game. They fail to realize they are role models and the impact they have on the young people who look up to them is very significant. There are many others who were berrer althletically than Mr. Ashe but to me he was the total package.

Cheryl Miller is a name that’s synonymous with Legend,Hall of Famer,Olympian and the Best women to play the game.
I was introduced to Cheryl at a young age by my oldest brother when I became interested in basketball. He had taped the 1984 Championship game with USC vs Tennessee.
Instantly,I was a Cheryl Miller fan as I watched her OWN the basketball court with prestige and grace.
Being a Phoenix Mercury fan I was excited when she was the head coach and lead the team to the Finals in 1998 but the team lost to the Houston Comets.
There are two milestones in my life regarding Cheryl that I am proud to be a fan. Her induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1995 and meeting my idol in April of 2001 at the baggage claim of the Sky Harbor Airport. She was everything I imagined her to be and more;her “genuine down-to-earth personality” far outweighed any of the accolades she had allotted over the years.
Cheryl Miller is the reason I’ll ALWAYS have “Bball4life” in my heart and soul.

When asked to name my favorite athlete of all time, I took a long moment to think. I was actually quite surprised being a huge football fan I kind of excepted a name to roll off the tip of my tongue, like Walter Payton or Jerry Rice, or even Terrell Owens. Then I processed the question slowly, favorite athlete of all time? Should he be more than a one sport player? Should he be a legend or record breaker, or just an athlete I really admire? What qualities must he process to qualify as my all time favorite? I started to think back to when I was growing up and the athletes that had left impressions on me. I thought of Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, Prime Time Deion Sanders, and then it hit me BO JACKSON.
He had been kind of an icon when I was growing up, from magazine covers to cereal boxes and even mentions in hip hop lyrics, Bo was the man! He was almost a super hero to us. His stellar accomplishments speak for themselves. Not only was he selected by the NY Yankees in the second round of the MLB draft. After choosing to attend Auburn University on a football scholarship he went on to win the Heisman trophy and rank #8 on ESPN’s Top 25 Players In College Football History list. In addition to all these achievements Bo was an amazing competitor in track and field, it seemed there was no limit to his athletic abilities. As a player for the Kansas City Royals he was named 1989 ALL STAR GAME MVP.
Football fans watched him with wide eyes in a Raider uniform turn in a 221-yard rushing performance on Monday Nigh Football in 1987, plowing over Seattle MLB Seahawks star linebacker Brian Bosworth. Highlights like that combined with the witty “Bo Knows” Nike media campaign are just a few reasons why Bo Jackson left such a lasting impression on me. Although the choice is a difficult one, I will say all around athlete Vincent Edward “Bo” Jackson is my favorite athlete of all time.
Okay this was a tough one to answer since I like a lot of athletes but I’ll give you my favorite Buckeye athlete.
It was after the 2001-2002 season and we were all wondering what the next move was for Mike Doss. Then there was a press conference and being that he won a championship on every level he wanted to come back for his senior year to win a championship. And the rest is history
So I would say that my fave athlete would have tp be Mike Doss.

I would have to say Wilma Rudolph her life is the epitome of perservance, determination & overcoming. When others say “you cant” her story says “Watch me, I can!!!”

I have a bunch of favorite players in several leagues, but the person I’ve been following the longest is Allen Iverson. I’ve been a fan of Tha Answer since the age of 10. Actually, he was the first player I began to watch and also the reason why I became interested in basketball. Overcoming the trials and tribulations of his younger years, having to grow and adjust to an adult in the NBA and watching him mature overtime increased my admiration for him.
At that age, I had never seen anyone play with such passion day in and day out, giving 100 percent every game no matter how much they were winning or losing by. Not to mention the way he bounced back from injuries, letting nothing keep him down. Realizing that this man has the potential to be the best at any sport (well, at least football or basketball) just by putting his all into it is inspirational in itself. Yes, he’s been through a lot and no he’s not perfect but the good he’s done thus far has surpassed his imperfections. Allen Iverson, Tha Answer, AI; whenever any of these names are mentioned, we all know they’re referring to “the little man with a big heart”. Whether he retires or not, AI will still be on the top of my list of favorite players.

Well this one is pretty easy and I don’t want to pick the obvious choice but I grew up in the Jordan era. That statement alone says it all. What other athlete has their own era?
Jordan dominated the 90′s. He’s an icon, the ultimate athlete, and he is who every young athlete aspired to be. You want to be the “Jordan” of whatever sport you play… Baby Jordan, Lady Jordan, who will be the next Jordan?
Jordan is the epitome and the human litmus test for greatness, but will anyone else ever measure up?

My Favorite Football Player of All-Time is Hines Ward! He is a magnificent spirit on the football field. As his position is, “WR”, there are many you can ask about his ability to block. Not many WR’s in the league do BOTH like he does. If you are in doubt, ask the Ravens Ed Reed. Lol… And, after every play, whether positive yardage is gained or not, he has a SMILE on his face. He LOVES the game , and shows incredible sportsmanship at all times.
