The Most Overrated Season In NFL History???
Miami Dolphins QB Chad Pennington finishes tied for second place with Atlanta Falcons RB Michael Turner in the MVP voting.
I had to write about this after saw how the NFL MVP voting ended this past week because I saw something that I never thought I would see this season, let alone anytime soon and that is a Miami Dolphin as an MVP candidate.
Just read these statistics/facts about Chad Pennington’s season and you tell me if they are worth a second place finish in the MVP voting:
Passing Yards- 3,653 yards (9th in the NFL)
Passing Touchdowns- 19 (12th in the NFL)
Pro Bowl- No
Are these MVP statistics to you??? Not to me.
I think there is too much emphasis placed on the quarterback position when it comes the MVP voting. The MVP should be the Most Valuable Player not the leader of a team that had a huge turn around after a bad season the year before.
I believe Joey Porter and his 17.5 sacks (2nd in the NFL) were just as valuable, if not more valuable to the Miami Dolphins as Chad Pennington’s play on offense.
If I’m not mistaken the Dolphins started the whole Wildcat offense trend without Chad Pennington even being involved. It was the play of Ronnie Brown (a Pro Bowler this year) and Ricky Williams that sparked the Dolphins offense this year.
I guess that we should forget what the Wildcat offense did for the offense and say that Chad Pennington is a bonified MVP candidate and be done with it.
I say NO WAY!!! If you don’t want to say it, I will……
Chad Pennington is no way, shape or form a top two candidate for the MVP award.
In an earlier post I gave the Comeback Player of the Year Award to Pennington because he had such a great season in Miami compared to what he’s done throughout his career, but MVP is way too far.
Nothing against Pennington, he had a great season, I just believe there are better MVP candidates out there that finished behind him or weren’t mentioned in the voting.
Here are the players that I think that were better candidates than Chad Pennington that are not quarterbacks:
Adrian Peterson- NFL’s leading rusher (1,760 yards
Michael Turner- NFL’s second leading rusher (1,699 yards
DeAngelo Williams- NFL’s 3rd leading rusher (1,515 yards) and leader in touchdowns (18)
Andre Johnson- NFL’s leader in catches (115) leader in yards (1,575)
Ed Reed- NFL’s leader in interceptions (9) second in non-offensive touchdowns (2)

i totally agree with you. MVP is startingto become overrated and under appreciated to me. the Leaders should not be included. The are suppose to bring out the best in their team..and therefore shouldnt be recognized in that manner unless they are making tackles and touchdowns which is not likely.
