The Return Of Florida State Safety Myron Rolle
Aspiring to both the National Football League and medical school, Florida State safety Myron Rolle completed all necessary pre-medical requirements, and was able to graduate in just 2.5 years with a 3.75 grade point average, earning a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science.
Despite helping the Florida State Seminoles reach many football victories, Rolle postponed his NFL aspirations to study at the University of Oxford. He has completed a masters in public administration degree and is now looking to resume his football career.
In 2008, he earned Associated Press 3rd team All-American honors as well as Football Writers Association America 2nd team All-ACC and CoSIDA Academic All-America.
In the 2008 season game versus the Miami Hurricanes, Seminoles defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews remarked that Rolle played the best and most complete game he has ever seen a safety play at Florida State University in his 25 years of coaching. Rolle had four tackles (two touchdown saving tackles), one tackle for loss, four pass breakups, one sack, two quarterback hurries and three critical 3rd down stops.
awarded to Americans each year. His interview for the scholarship was originally scheduled at the same time as Florida State was to play at Maryland; the NCAA decided to allow Rolle to take a chartered plane from his interview in Birmingham, Alabama to College Park.
He was awarded the scholarship less than three hours before the Florida State vs. Maryland game. He became the fourth Florida State student and second school athlete to receive the honor, as well as the only FSU football player to do so. Rolle announced on January 12, 2009, that he will first study at Oxford for the 2009–10 academic year and will then enter the 2010 NFL Draft.
Rolle has now returned, after taking a year off from football, to play in the 2010 Senior Bowl in hopes of being a high NFL draft pick and fulfill his dreams of playing football in the NFL. I believe that even with the year off, Rolle will be at the least a second round pick for three simple reasons.
First, Rolle is an outstanding talent, he has all the physical tools to be a first round pick and play for an NFL team at either safety spot . Secondly, he’s extremely smart, all NFL coaches love intelligent football players and last but not least, Rolle has tremendous character, he’s never gotten into any trouble off the field and in this day and age, thats a huge plus. Overall, I think Myron Rolle will be great player in the NFL and if my Dallas Cowboys front office people are reading, don’t be afraid to pull the trigger on Rolle.
