Three Players Who Made Millions This Weekend At The NFL Combine

After watching the first days of the 2010 NFL Combine, I saw some impressive workouts and athleticism at each position, but none stood out more than these three guys who I believe may have jumped a round or two in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Remember, the rankings are based off their respective positions.

Bruce Campbell, Offensive Tackle, Maryland Terrapins

Combine Stats:

40-Yard Dash- 4.85 (1st)
Bench Press- 34 reps (5th)
Vertical Jump- 32 inches (6th)

Overview

Campbell is a good sized left tackle prospect that is a bit ahead of the curve, technique wise, over most underclass linemen. He is quick to set the edge and does a good job of jamming opponents with heavy hands and can be quick to get a refit when the pass rusher slaps his hands away. He has struggled with durability in that he has yet to play in every game during a collegiate season and will need to be gone over with a fine toothed comb by team doctors. He gets a bit lazy with his techniques and can be late to recognize or react to new situations but his physical talents are undeniable and he should be quick to come off some team’s draft board.

Dorin Dickerson, Tight End, Pittsburgh Panthers

Combine Stats:

40-Yard Dash- 4.40 (1st)
Bench Press- 24 reps (4th)
Vertical Jump- 43.5 inches (1st)
Broad Jump- 10’5″ (1st)

Dickerson is an athlete that has lined up everywhere from tight end to wide receiver to linebacker to fullback. He has never taken a position and taken it over although he has shown flashes everywhere he lined up. He will probably end up as a fullback/H-back that is used in situations and can line up in a variety of positions. He is athletic and catches the ball well but is not going to threaten many secondaries down the middle. He has decent straight line speed as a fullback but lacks a big burst as he hits the hole. He is not apt to be the kind of fullback that you want to be the lead blocker in a power running game.

Montario Hardesty, Running Back, Tennessee Volunteers

Combine Stats:

40-Yard Dash- 4.49 (6th)
Bench Press- 21 reps (6th)
Vertical Jump- 41 inches (1st)
Broad Jump- 10’4″ (1st)

Overview

Hardesty is an accomplished college runner that may struggle to bring the same kind of production to the next level. He is not quite big enough to be a power back and lacks the all out speed and explosion to be a game breaker. He does a good job of running behind his pads and shows balance on contact to break tackles and will fight for yards after the first hit. He shows a decent burst through the hole but lacks a second gear to pull away once he gets to the next level. He is a patient runner that does a good job of following his blockers and seeing things develop.
