Tyson Gay Runs-Wind Aided 9.75 At USA Championships

Tyson Gay showed he’s ready to challenge Usain Bolt this summer, running the 100-meter dash in a wind-aided 9.75 seconds Thursday in his opening-round heat at the USA Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field.

The American record-holder at 9.77, Gay ran the seventh-fastest time under any condition, aided by a 3.4 meters-per-second wind that was above the allowable limit. Gay ran a wind-aided 9.68 at the Olympic trials here last summer but injured his hamstring in the 200 and wasn’t at full strength in Beijing.

Gay’s work at the four-day nationals is done. As the defending champion from the 2007 World Championships, he has a wild-card entry into this summer’s World meet at Berlin, where he expects to face Bolt, the triple Olympic gold-medalist from Jamaica.
