UNC-Wilmington Opens Practice With New HOF Coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke
The UNCW women’s basketball team began preparations for the 2010-11 season Wednesday as the team held its first official practice under first-year Head Coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke in Trask Coliseum.
Cooper-Dyke had to look for some when she made the decision to leave Prairie View A&M to coach the Seahawks this season.
From what I understand, are pretty nice so Cooper-Dyke shouldn’t have any problems finding a nice place to live.
The team took advantage of recently enacted NCAA bylaw 17.3.2.2, which states that a women’s basketball program may begin practice on the date that is 40 days prior to the date of the institution’s first regular-season contest. During that span, the Seahawks cannot engage in more than 30 days of countable athletically related activities prior to its first regular-season contest.
Unless Cooper-Dyke wants to go elsewhere, UNC-Wilmington will be very happy with her as a coach. I think she’s going to be keeping her for a while.
UNCW will host UNC Pembroke in an exhibition contest Nov. 10 before opening the regular season Nov. 15 at in-state rival UNC Greensboro.
