USA Volleyball Player Kim Willoughby Sentenced For Assault

Olympic silver medalist and former University of Hawaii volleyball standout Kim Willoughby has been sentenced to five years probation for assault.

The 28-year-old Willoughby had pleaded no contest to the charge under a plea agreement with prosecutors. Circuit Judge Karen Ahn on Monday also ordered Willoughby to pay $2,000 for medical bills run up by the victim, Sara Daniel.

Willoughby apologized to Daniel in court, saying she regretted what happened on Dec. 16, 2006.

Daniel suffered a broken nasal bone and eye socket when Willoughby punched her during an altercation outside a Honolulu nightclub. Daniel told Willoughby during sentencing that she can’t put into words the pain she endured.

Willoughby played on Team USA that won the silver medal at the Beijing Olympics.
