Utah Shocks No. 15 Pittsburgh 27-24 In OT

Utah kicker Joe Phillips celebrates after making the game-winning field goal against Pitt

Well Ladies and Gentleman, it looks like we have our first major upset of the college football season.

The Pittsburgh Panthers were a team that some felt would win the Big East title and possibly play in a BCS bowl. They can still win the Big East, but their BCS hopes look bleak after opening night.

Utah freshman cornerback Brian Blechen intercepted a pass for on the first play of overtime, setting up Joe Phillips for a 21-yard field goal that gave the Utes a 27-24 victory against No. 15 Pittsburgh on Thursday night.

Pittsburgh’s star running back, sophomore Dion Lewis, was held to 75 yards on 25 carries and Utah’s defense played just one play better than the Panthers to pull out a home victory.

Utah sophomore quarterback Jordan Wynn carved up the Panthers defense throwing for 283 yards and three touchdowns.

Wynn spent most of the night hitting sophomore wide receiver DeVonte Christopher (8 catches, 155 yards and a touchdown) and senior wide receiver Jereme Brooks (5 catches, 87 yards and two touchdowns).

Pittsburgh will try to get back on track against New Hampshire on Saturday, September 11th, while the Utah Utes will try to go 2-0 against the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels next Saturday.
