Vikings DE Jared Allen Gets Contract Restructured

Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen had his contract tweaked slightly by the Vikings in order to create additional salary-cap room for the team in 2010. That’s working under the assumption that there is a salary cap, which might not be the case unless the NFL and its players union reach an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement.

Allen’s agent, Ken Harris, declined to comment on any specifis of what happened but ESPN reported today that Allen is going to get $4 million of an $8 million roster bonus this year instead of on March 1, 2010. The $4 million will simply be wrapped into Allen’s 2009 salary. There is no new money in this deal.

“It must be a slow news day,” Harris said, pointing to the fact there was nothing major done with the contract. “It’s a good change to help them better manage the cap and we’re just happy to help.”
