Vikings Running Backs Coach Eric Bieniemy Rejects USC Job

The Vikings have given running backs coach Eric Bieniemy a promotion and a raise, successfully persuading him to remain with the team rather than join Lane Kiffin’s staff at USC.

Vikings head coach Brad Childress confirmed this sequence of events Saturday evening, according to a blog by the Minneapolis Star Tribune’s Judd Zulgad.

Bieniemy told Childress on Thursday morning that he was staying with the Vikings and turning down the offensive coordinator position at USC. Kiffin subsequently hired Titans RB coach Kennedy Pola to become his O-coordinator, angering Titans head coach Jeff Fisher.

Bieniemy, who is entering the first year of a two-year contract, is being given the title of assistant head coach/offense but will continue to coach the Vikings’ running backs.

Childress has said several times that he considers Bieniemy one of the top RB coaches in the NFL, according to the Star Tribune, and believes he has the ability to be a head coach in the league.
