The Atlanta Hawks acquired guard Jamal Crawford from the Golden State Warriors in exchange for guards Acie Law and Speedy Claxton just hours before Thursday’s draft, the team said on Thursday.

Crawford will provide depth and flexibility in the backcourt for the Hawks, who reached the second round of the playoffs last season for the first time in a decade.

“He gives us balance in the backcourt, having produced at both point guard and shooting guard positions,” Atlanta vice president and general manager Rick Sund said in a statement.

“Not only is Jamal a talented scorer but he can also deliver quality production down the stretch of games.”

The 29-year-old Crawford averaged 19.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists for Golden State last season but did not fit into their mid-term plans.

“He’s another veteran that makes a lot of sense for our ballclub,” Hawks coach Mike Woodson said.

“Jamal’s a great talent offensively and only enhances what we are trying to do. I’m looking forward to his addition to our squad.”

A veteran of nine seasons in the NBA, Crawford has also played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Chicago Bulls and the New York Knicks.
