Why Is 49ers QB Alex Smith Still Starting?

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith has been everything but impressive this season.

Even though is in the top 10 in passing yards so far this season, he’s 27th in passer rating,  leads the league in interceptions thrown with nine and the most important stat of them all is the 49ers are 0-5.

So knowing these statistics, why is he still starting?

NFL starting quarterbacks such as the Jaguars’ David Garrard, Titans’ Vince Young and Raiders’ Jason Campbell have all been pulled in this early season and all have better stats than Smith.

Smith has been in the 49ers organization for six years and has yet to prove that he’s an affective starting quarterback in the NFL.

49ers head coach Mike Singletary should seriously think about starting backup David Carr.

In my opinion, David Carr is a better quarterback anyway. I know Carr takes alot of sacks but that was due to an awful offensive line in Houston and Carr hasn’t really had a chance to start since he left the Texans.

Carr proves in mop duty last year with the New York Giants that he can still play in this league but the 49ers are yet to give him a chance.  I don’t think they have anything to lose by starting Carr, they have yet to win a game this season, it can’t get any worse than that.

Do you think David Carr should start for the 49ers?
